Stampede may be cancelled, but the spirit of Calgary Stampede isn't. Over here at A Little Confetti, we firmly believe it'll take more than a pandemic to squash the spirit that comes with 100 year tradition.
Yesterday it was announced by the Calgary Stampede that there would be a Food Truck Rally during the 10 days that would traditionally be Stampede. Food trucks will be lined up at Stampede Park and at various locations around the city offering your favourite Stampede snacks - drive though style. How awesome is that? We'll be heading out looking for a mini donut truck for sure!
Of course it wouldn't be Stampede without a pancake breakfast - You can grab one of those at BMO Kids’ Day Drive-Thru Pancake Breakfast on Wednesday July 8th.
For those that would prefer to celebrate at home, how about having a stampede bbq in your own backyard? Or a stampede themed pancake breakfast for the kids? We teamed up with Laura from Instagrams @dunfordgirls to bring you a little bit of at-home Stampede inspiration.
I've probably mentioned before that I was lucky to discover my insta-friend Laura and I lived in the same neighbourhood. This multitasking momma is a Healthcare worker by trade (thank-you Laura!) and also party planner extraordinaire! She whips up these little fun parties for her kids so quick and easily it leaves us in awe. If Laura can do it, you can do it too!
Laura started with her trusty lemonade stand. With some black paper and white paint she covered up the word 'Lemonade' with a rustic looking handmade 'Stampede" sign and voila it's now a concession stand! (A piece of cardboard or wood and a black marker to write Stampede will also do the trick!).
For the table setting Laura pieced together some of her favourite items from our Stampede / Howdy Cowboy Party Collection.
She used Howdy Cowboy Cups featuring a cowboy riding a bucking bronco, Howdy Cowboy Small Plates with a traditional blue paisley print along with our Cherry Small Napkins.
Homemade cupcakes using our Howdy Cowboy Cupcake Kit along with Stampede themed custom cookies by the amazing ladies at Sugarbakers Cookie Co. decorated the party table and Stampede concession stand. (Side note! Sugarbakers Cookie Co. will be selling boxes of stampede cookies cookies soon!)
The concession stand also had corn dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, mini donuts and lemonade! All our favourite Stampede treats!
Lastly what's a party without balloons? We love the linkable Paisley Balloon Garland as party decor, it's fun and easy to make (a balloon hand pump for sure helps).
With Stampede week right around the corner we hope we've inspired you to still celebrate this time honoured tradition. Events and gathering around us have been cancelled but as the Stampede 2020 slogan says "Community Spirit Cannot Be Cancelled".
